Richard Stickells

Richard Stickells was born in 1826. He became a general dealer of the firm Stickells and Humphries, grocers and bakers. He also owned the Union Steam, Flour and Saw Mills which opened in Panmure in May 1878.

He became a Free Mason, belonging to the Buffalo Lodge, and was made an honorary member of the Border Oddfellows.

Stickells was elected to the Town Council in February 1877 as a representative for Ward 2 at the start of the second Triennial Council.

He served the entire duration of that Council and was re-elected for the third Triennial Council in February 1880 and again in February 1881, under the Incorporation Act but became seriously ill and died on 5 September 1882 while still a councillor. He was then 57 years of age.

He was buried in the cemetery behind the Lock Street Gaol.
