![]() OceanosThe Oceanos sank off the Transkei coast on 4 August 1991 after leaving East London late because of a bomb threat. She had faulty engine pipes which had not been repaired and she sailed into stormy seas. Attempting to make up time, it seems that the captain kept close to the shore where the ship possibly struck a reef, causing water seepage. Later that night the generator short-circuited, causing a power-failure which quickly led to the loss of the ship. Rescue operations were a nightmare because of wind and high seas. Incredibly, there was no loss of life.
